State and city dignitaries reviewed a South Boston parade with 6000 marchers under flags of the United States and Erin’s banner. Edward F. Hollis a former clerk in the United States Circuit Court office is arrested in Seattle by United States Commissioner Totten and held for removal to Boston on a $75 embezzlement charge. The husband traced his missing wife to the Pacific coast after she deserted him and was found with Hollis.
Hollis who left Boston two weeks ago promised to reform and live in Chicago. His suspended sentence for embezzlement hinged on good behavior. His mother gave $500 to start housekeeping under the belief he would marry. Hollis’s Seattle presence surprised relatives and federal authorities charged violation of the place-of-abode condition during probation and demanded his arrest.
A deadly blaze in a four story eight family building at 2 Truro Street causes four deaths including Mrs W D Wharton and her 13 year old daughter Eleanora along with Mrs Mary Kelley and her 19 month old Priscilla Kelley. Dozens escape as residents jump from windows and flee long smoke filled corridors. Alice Hardy and 3 year old Marion Prevost narrowly survive after seizing a child from danger.
