Michael of Russia, born at St Petersburg on December 4 1878, is the second son of Czar Alexander III and younger brother to Nicholas. He has two sisters Xenia born 1875 who married Grand Duke Alexander and Olga born 1882 who married Peter Prince of Oldenburg. their marriage was dissolved in 1916.

Captain Fryatt of the Brussels was executed by a German court-martial in 1916 for ramming U-33 efforts.
Andrew J. Peters, assistant secretary of the treasury, resigned to resume legal practice in Boston. He had disclosed plans to resign to friends several months ago.
Adjutant-General Gardner W. Pearson has resigned his post after clashes with the committee of public safety. Brigadier-General E. Leroy Sweetser is named acting adjutant general by Governor McCall.
