Needle found in patient during appendix surgery at St. Francis

Pistol Scene in Municipal Court Over Family Assault

Gertrude Goodsell testified in Municipal Court that her husband threatened her with a revolver on February 8 near the Boylston cafe and that she supports two children. The husband denied the claim, and a trial followed with a police and cruelty-to-children official testimony. Goodsell was sentenced to a year in the House of Correction with $100 bail on appeal.

Purim Celebrations Across City Venues At Night

The Purim festival was celebrated by Hebrews in the city with feasts, masquerades, and balls. Progress Club hosted a grand bal masque on Warren Street drawing 250 attendees with 150 masked. Utopian Club held its annual bal masque. Austrian-Hungarian Benevolent Association staged a large masquerade at Paine Memorial Hall with about 600 present. Janausechek Association held its fifth annual ball at Odd Fellows Hall for around 600 attendees. Bnai Zion Educational Society organized a Purim party for 600 children at Baldwin Place Hall. Helping Hand Home children enjoyed a party with Rabbi Schoher addressing them.

Roland Batley of Yale class of 1900 lies ill at his father’s Middleton Connecticut home. Attending physician fears smallpox but cannot confirm the disease, noting symptoms could indicate a serious measles attack. Batley, exposed to Gaius Perkins who recently fell ill with varioloid at Yale, raises concern of a more serious form.

Charity Club Fund Receipts Reported at Vendome Meeting

At the Charity Club meeting the treasurer Mrs J Sewall Reed said no donation from Abbie A Coburn estate was received leaving total receipts of 4650 from the bequest of 5000. Other income included 100 from the visiting committee 25 from Lend a Hand Club and 140 by Mrs Albert aesay. County Fair entertainment treasurer Mrs TY Perkina reported receipts of 1493.61. Mrs Risteen noted a whist party for the hospital and announced the annual reception and breakfast on April 17.

Cambridge School Board Names Merrill School, Plans Future Expansion

The Cambridge School Board met briefly and voted to rename the old Fayette street building the Merrill School in honor of ex Mayor J. Warren Merrill. Dana schoolhouse on Centre street will close after March 16 with students moved to Merrill. The board endorsed a York and Berkshire street lot for a new fourteen room school and confirmed several teachers including Hattie Woodward Ida Holden Florence Hunter Martha Parker and Mabel Blake.

Plunder Recovered From West Boston Bridge Find

Cambridge police expanded a theft probe at the West Boston bridge water find and recovered items from the Henderson residence two weeks after the burglary. The haul included two ladles a reading glass an orange knife two souvenir spoons three forks a butter knife a silver stein and a silver card case bearing Mary Hughes Pear Street cards. Earlier forks and spoons from the same break in were identified by Harry Henderson.
