Dr Edward B Coombs former Brooklyn coroner and leading Republican figures was found guilty of malfeasance in office and grand larceny for extorting over 4000 dollars from Brooklyn for imaginary inquests alleged to have occurred in July 1897 He faces sentence after arraignment with potential seven year imprisonment and a 1000 dollar fine.
Edgar L Ridgway ex president of the State Board of Immigration died at his Bronxville home from Brights disease. He was born in New York City November 1836 and once a leading figure in Tammany Hall. He was a brother of Hon James Ridgway.
