Faust at Boston Theatre Delights Enraptured Audience

Italian opera drew an enthusiastic Boston Theatre crowd last night with Kellogg Sulzer Stockton Mazzoleni Biachi and Bellini in the cast. Kellogg charming as Margherita earned hearty applause and the soldiers chorus in act four was repeated. Tomorrow Norma features Medori and the revival of Martha with Brignoli in view, promising early seatings.

Boston Celebrates St Patrick Day With Parades And Events

City readies a large Irish and Irish American procession under Captain Michael Doherty. 6000 to 8000 participants expected as the parade traces a long route through Beacon to Charlestown and back to the Common. The Charitable Irish Society marks its 127th year with a Parker House dinner and 12 M meeting. Evening activities include a ground concert by the House of the Angel Guardian and a Robert Emmet lecture at Andrews Hall. The Emmet Association plans a banquet at their Armory and many other parties and balls are listed if weather permits.

Ouchita River Expedition Updates From Cairo Illinois

Reports detail the gunboat fleet Ouchita Osage Conestoga Lexington Fort Hinman and Crockett during action along the Ouachita River. Osage passed unscathed Hinman damaged with two killed and eight wounded. Ouchita silenced a rebel battery after which Harrisonburg was burned. Conestoga sunk after collision with Gen Price near Natchez. Carroll county Kentucky voters split with Colema Henderson and Westley, while Iowa recruits head south and Memphis reports cotton shortages and sugar shipments.
