Walsh Leading Witness Testifies in Hartigan Perjury Trial

Former Police Captain Thomas W. Walsh who confessed graft testified in the Supreme Court as the State's principal witness in the trial of Patrolman John J. Hartigan accused of perjury in police bribery cases. His collapse during testimony was noted.

Walsh testified he carried 150 dollars from his wife to add to an envelope for Eugene Fox's legal fee then asked Hartigan to deliver it to police HQ with Fox told to count it. Hartigan later confessed after Walsh fell ill and Lena Mischel corroborated Hartigan's visit. Hartigan will defend with Sweeney and others expected to testify.

District Attorney Higgins ordered an inquest to determine the death cause of Elizabeth Cummings a 16 year old girl of 188 Cross street Malden who died Wednesday Medical Examiner Durell ruled septic peritonitis The examiner declined to say what caused the poisoning Professor Whitney of Harvard is analyzing the stomach report expected soon Police questioned two Malden youths who were friends of the girl Funeral services will be held at the Cummings home this afternoon conducted by Rev Dr C H Moss of the First Baptist Church.

Canal To Be Done In 1914

Boston Symphony Tests Burleske by Mrazek and Charpentier Suite

The Boston Symphony Orchestra under Dr Carl Muck performed the world premiere in Boston of Joseph Mrazek's Symphonie Burleske based on Max and Moritz. The program also featured Liszt Mephisto Waltz in orchestral form and Charpentier Impressions of Italy. Mrazek, born 1878 in Brunn, studied at Vienna and now teaches there. The Burleske parodies the Max and Moritz tales with seven pranks ending in theatrical mischief. Charpentier's Italian-inspired suite was praised for sunlit atmosphere and modern boldness.

Quincy acquitted Hawthorne guilty in federal trial

The court sentenced Hawthorne and two co-defendants after a 70 day trial. Quincy was acquitted while Hawthorne and Morton faced prison terms for allegedly defrauding the public of about 600000 linked to Hawthorne properties. Judges denied suspensions, noting the fairest trial possible.
