Fresh Opportunities Lecture at Y M C A and Time Science Talk

Col Russell H Conwell spoke on Fresh Opportunities urging skilled Christian men to combat infidelity and seize home opportunities rather than chase fame. He urged study of surroundings, cited trifles leading to great inventions, and urged self-reliance before a large audience. Prof Leonard Waldo discussed standard time, noted a time ball experiment from Cambridge, and described transit instruments and the phonograph for star observations. Rev H W Bush delivered the third American History lecture at Y M C U, tracing independence, taxes, and leaders like Otis Adams Cock and Jefferson, with a note on the war’s turning points and the push for a new map.

Deserted Bride Tracks Husband's Double Marriage in New York

Miss Isabella M. Stone, once living in Boston, was freed from marriage bonds in New York amid peculiar events. She had secretly wed Charles P. Hall in Jersey City in 1872, then publicly married him in Boston in 1873. A later visit by a rival claimant led to a discovery that Hall had secretly married Mary Ann Ryan in 1871. Judge Lawrence ordered dissolution and records were filed in New York County Clerk's office.
