Boston Faces Liquor License Losses and Tax Increase Debate
Mayor Peters warned Boston faces more than 1 million dollars in liquor license losses under national prohibition and considered raising water rates to cover the shortfall. The Finance Commission urged drastic 1919 cuts, consolidations, and no new positions, aiming to trim about 2.2 million from the budget while resisting a higher tax limit. The panel warned that without cuts the police and fire budgets would be reduced.
