House committee moves spark party arena clash over seats
Representatives Longworth and Johnson assail the plan to enlarge the steering committee, calling it a reactionary win and a West representation bid. Johnson's proposal to add Anderson Nolan Sleep and Rains wins 36 votes but faces 155 opposition from multiple states. Mann named chair of the committee on woman suffrage as the Illinois member plans to push the Pusan B. Anthony constitutional amendment.

Six Die in Farm Blaze at East Franklin
Franklin Me March 1 Emery Colson aged about 52 and five of his six children were burned to death today on his East Franklin farm. The farm buildings and those of his father in law John Walton burned. Children ranged from two weeks to 14 years. The husband started a kitchen fire then went to the barn to feed stock. His wife fled with their year old baby and warned him the house was afire. The stove overheated and ignited the kitchen, and Colson reentered the burning home to save the sleeping children but was overcome by smoke and flames. His body was found beside the five children.
