Paris voters backed the government 297 to 228 after a tense debate led by Premier Ribot and ex minister Bourgeois over prosecutions connected to the Panama canal defendants. Bourgeois defended his stance from the witness stand in the Palais de Justice as Charles de Lesseps countered the charges.

Pennis Saunders aged 20 of 179 Havre Street East Boston suffered a severe crush injury to his right hand at Thompson’s planing mill on Border Street last night at about 5 30 He was taken to City Hospital for treatment.
London March 3 Mr Gladstone is confined to bed with influenza like symptoms after a Hampstead visit. Sir Andrew Clarke hesitates to diagnose precisely while anxiety grows. Mrs Gladstone also ill with influenza and attending her husband in Downing Street to preserve quiet.
Washington March 13 Postmaster General Bissell received all visitors today but urged applicants to follow the usual course as a flood of inquiries continues. Maxwell, nominated for fourth assistant postmaster general, is expected to arrive next Thursday to handle appointments. Applications arrive at about a thousand daily and may rise to fifteen hundred. Clerks from other branches assist in processing and briefing cases. The Sunday work rule from Wanamaker’s term was observed yesterday.
Governor Cleaves, under a Maine Legislature resolution, asks Mrs. James G. Blaine for permission to remove Blaine’s body from Oak Hill Cemetery in Washington to Augusta. A monument was anticipated if removal succeeds. Mrs. Blaine, back from New York, has not replied and will not move from Washington, seeking a smaller home.
In Schenectady New York the foundation of the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company track washed away beneath the New York Central line halting main line traffic to Albany. Edison World’s Fair exhibits and much machinery stock were destroyed by floodwaters with losses estimated above 500000 dollars. No word on the dynamite party at Fitchburg bridge. If the gorge bursts further, more damage is feared.
Philadelphia March 13 The receivers of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroads disclose current liabilities and assets as of Feb 20 1893. Floating debt totals 9.87 million with extensive collateral and related bonds. Assets include coal on hand and receivables totaling about 15.78 million, leaving an excess of liabilities over assets by 2.7 million. The Reading cattle company stands as contingent obligor for 350 000 in notes.
