Copper Market Slumps as London Buys Mexican Central

In New York yesterday the market showed little feature while Continental markets stayed weak and heavy liquidation hit foreign accounts. Copper remained the notable factor, rattling confidence. Montana holdings moved mainly by Charles Head & Co under cover as French buyers bid under market value. St Paul directors declared a 2 percent dividend on preferred stock, reduced earlier to 2% and now down another half percent for 1888, with substantial common stock dividends absent. London bought Mexican Central stock moderately as the issue traded freely at 13 1 2 to 18 1 2.
