Opposition to Compulsory Pilotage Sparks Maritime Debate
The petition and New England Shipowners' Association meeting ignite public debate on compulsory pilotage. Captain N W Thompson of the Oscar R Brown criticizes the system as coercive, citing higher costs and unreliable pilot access at certain ports. He argues sailing vessels should have equal rights with steamers and urges licensed pilots for sailing vessels to avoid destruction of the merchant marine. The piece also notes a Boston evening high school event with Governor Robinson and diplomas awarded to stenographers, emphasizing education and ongoing school support.

Second concert by Lehmann Musin and Rummel at Music Hall
The second concert by Lilli Lehmann Ovide Musin and Franz Rummel was held last evening in Music Hall. The audience was small but enthusiastic and the performance was of great merit and thoroughly appreciated. Lehmann showed delicate beauty in phrasing and delivered Mignon’s polonaise nearly faultless though lacking stage surroundings. Musin received his usual ovation with an intellectually appealing, broad style. Rummel played with good taste producing expressive shading. A matinee is scheduled for this afternoon.
