Protest Against German Opera at Lexington Opera House
The American Defence Society asked Governor Smith to block a season of German opera starting tomorrow, stating the United States is at war with Germany and accusing German propaganda of glorifying German ideals. Letters were also sent to state lawmakers and inquiries made about enemy alien theatrical property. A police guard would be stationed at the theater amid efforts by the war camp community service to prevent threats of disruption.
