A train wreck near Olean New York caused oil tank explosions and a large fire. Dozens of people were killed or severely burned as flames and heat swept the scene near the tracks. many bodies were incinerated. Sydney Fish, a local businessman, described the terrifying blast and the scale of casualties.
Fifteen inhabitants of a four story tenement on 59 Webster Street narrowly escaped with fire and smoke as a stove fire broke out. Patrolmen Rourke Burke Fitzgerald and McKenna led daring rescues saving Fannie Lapinsky and others. Sadie Lapinsky vaulted from a third floor to a fire net, while others were pulled to safety by firefighters and police. Fannie suffered serious burns and was hospitalized, while Rourke was badly scorched but aided others. The scene prompted crowd panic and gratitude for the police team and Webster Hall’s aid.

Sheriff Fairbairn released a full confession from the youth Perry who died after confessing to the murders of Clara Morton and Agnes McPhee. A Chinese society in Boston held a closing banquet after three day festivities honoring Quong Gong patron god of Hep Sing Tong. The event featured a ceremony, fireworks, and speeches by officials and community leaders including Wong Aley and ex-Representatives Barry and Bliss.
Angus Caners of 111 Warren Avenue was assaulted and robbed of 75 dollars on the bridge off Rutland Square near the Providence railroad tracks late last night. The attack occurred around 8:15 PM as he walked to a Back Bay hotel. two men, one described as a powerful Black man, struck him and robbed him while another restrained him. Caners, bleeding and in torn clothes, reported the incident to Division 5 and Lieutenant Garland, but could not provide a detailed description of the assailants.
A warrant for the arrest of W. W. Cooke, defaulter of Milford Co operative Bank, was received from Milford authorities. Cooke is at 80 Waumbeck Street Roxbury, improving. Bank president fixes shortage at 0 to 15 000. warrant not yet served.
Harvard and Yale are near an amicable settlement after an athletic committee meeting. The Springfield agreement from last Saturday is not officially ratified yet but is now seen as likely. Forecast for Boston: fair Tuesday and Wednesday with fresh northeast winds.
Charles Cullinane, 33, of 154 Heath Street Roxbury was stabbed in the back by rival Michael Hannon on Columbus Avenue near Centre Street yesterday afternoon about 4:30 after a dispute over a pool game. Cullinane was hospitalized with a non serious wound. Hannon fled the scene as officers arrived.
