Brockton Remonstrants Challenge Six-Cent Fares Revenue

The Brockton remonstrant argued that six-cent fares would raise 2 607 179 in taxes on riders rather than the claimed 1 410 616 for depreciation, and that interest and depreciation figures in the Bay State report were miscalculated by over 1 812 865. He contended the higher fare demand is built on phony depreciation and wage claims, asserts the true surplus would be 462 017, and claims the Pittsfield six cent plan masks modest wage gains with inflated totals. Hearings resume April 17 with two weeks of sessions daily and will span months as district cases follow.
