Rioting by mustered out F Eighth Immune Colored Regiment in Chattanooga left six injured with months of recovery ahead. Inspector Harkin, Policeman Poe, and A J Ledford were badly wounded but expected to survive. Three soldiers were shot. identities not learned. Additional shooting occurred on a Southern Railway train between Chattanooga and Knoxville, by a soldier who fled at Athens Tennessee.

William Noble a prominent 258 West Fifty Fifth Street builder of the Grenoble Hotel and Empire Hotel filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition in New York. Liabilities total 1 027 460 with no assets and 810 000 secured. The failure stems from a newspaper venture. Noble sold the Empire Hotel recently and owned Fort William Henry Hotel at Lake George.

Roy Lovell aged 19 and William McCarthy aged 18 of Rockland left their homes Thursday evening and have not been heard from since.
