At about 9 A M Thursday a fire swept the Hyde Park town hall near the Boston and Providence railroad station, destroying the building. The blaze spread to surrounding properties but the Lincoln house behind was saved. The fire released a boiler explosion in the cellar with no serious injuries. Town records were recovered in good condition from the vaults. The lower offices move to Everett block and a new hall is planned at River street and Central avenue on Bleakie land. Insurance covered town hall and furniture with multiple policies. Fire indications point to a defective chimney, not plumbers as first thought. Several nearby properties suffered losses, with extensive insured values.
