Most Wonderful Boat Ever Built At Herreshoff Works

Bristol March 8 The new cup defender under construction at the Herreshoff south shop is described as the most remarkable sailing vessel yet built. The bull fin keel racer features a 31 ft 3 in top keel length, 16 ft bottom length, 5 ft 4 in rise, and a 19 ft top beam, with bronze plating and a redesigned bulb for weight distribution. Defender II is projected at about 871/2 ft on waterline and 132 ft overall with longer beam and stern overhangs for mast and canvas support.

National Cycling Association issues 1899 registration and circuit plans

Chairman A G Batchelder announces incorporation papers for the National Cycling Association in New Jersey. Registration opens for professionals and amateurs with fees of 2 and 1 dollars, district controls listed, grand circuit starts July 8 in the West and ends in the East, a New York State circuit in June, and France tour permits required after May 1. King of Dudes Held on Hotel Fraud Charge

Russell W. Start, a well dressed 26 year old, was arrested on charges of fraudulently obtaining food and lodging totaling 98.50 at the Hotel Rexford between February 7 and 27. Inspectors Abbott and Gil traced him from Worcester and say more hotel owners may come forward as investigations continue.
