A Friday sale offers $3000 worth of odds and ends at ten cents on the dollar. Odd suits, frocks, sacks, vests, and trousers in small sizes mostly, with prices originally 50 cents to $4 for odds. Overcoats and ulsters priced down from 25 to 35 dollars to 15, and last season spring coats to 10. Come early for choice.

The Republican Congressional Campaign Committee chose J. W. Babcock as chairman and I. D. Apsley as vice chairman for two years. Other officers include William B. Thompson as treasurer and an executive committee with J. H. Hull Joseph Cannon J. S. Sherman Jose Overstreet David Mercer and Senators Pritchard Pettigrew Mitchell plus Representative Hooker presiding. Apsley praised past forecasts and predicted a sweeping Republican victory next autumn.
Bernard Harris owner of 101 Brighton Street West End ejected Abraham Sewalsky and Morris Silverstein. After damages alleged five figures they returned and damaged walls and floors. Harris obtained a warrant. the tenants surrendered with bondsmen and a bail commissioner at Station 3.
At 4 30 this morning after an all night session the anti McKinley faction bolted the Republican convention and held a separate meeting. They carried 79 of 230 delegates while the regular convention supported the Ohioan.
Frankfort Ky March 5 St John Boyle of Louisville was tonight unanimously nominated by the Republican caucus for United States Senator.
Nicholas Merchand a 53 year old French chef, jailed for burglary, admitted planning theft to feed his delicate wife. His wife recounts a life of poverty after leaving a Berkeley street restaurant, saying he was driven to crime by hunger and a sense of injustice among the city’s rich.

A Jan 4 break in at Remick Bros. dry goods on Main Street Charles Town led to the arrest of Bernard Ennis who used the alias James Logan. He wore a bright pin and new neck scarf when captured, with a heavy sentence recorded. Logan’s partner Edward Jannis, 20, was arrested the following night by Officer J W Doherty.
Dedham Republicans last night elected delegates to state and congressional conventions. State delegates include George A. Reports from Cincinnati and El Paso warn that John L Sullivan has early dropsy. Parson Davies, Sullivan's manager, confirms signs and quotes Sullivan saying a short life and a merry one is his motto. The Enquirer corroborates the claim with similar statements from Weldon and others.
The weather recorder atop the Post Office tower logged a peak 43 mph with a decline to 34 mph by yesterday. On Wednesday gusts carried ice and snow, making for a troublesome day for pedestrians.

The outcome could be retirement from active service. Friends say Lang seeks retirement due to social ostracism after marrying the daughter of Commissary Sergeant Kinkle while a West Point cadet.

Lowell mourns as the governor lies in state private service planned at the Nesmith Street mansion. Funeral in Lowell at First Congregational Church on Monday at 2 30 pm with ceremonies pared to simplicity by request of Mrs Greenhalge.
Governor Greenhalge will be buried with a church service at the First Congregational Church in Lowell at 2 30 Monday afternoon. The body will not lie in state at the State House or Memorial Hall Lowell as requested by Mrs Greenhalge. Services may be held at the house in addition to those at the church. The Rev Dr George Y Bachellor may officiate if located. Adjutant General Dalton and Councillor Ryder discussed the arrangements with the funeral committee.
In Fall River on March 5 the Probate Court heard continued testimony on Nathan Law's will saga of 1888 1893. Three wills are involved Susan Wixon Wyatt and a third rejected by the Supreme Court. The estate valued around 25 000 dollars may pass to Nathan Law's direct descendants if the later will is voided. Attorneys L E Wood and M G B Swift argued for respective sides as judges reserved judgment.
The executors of Lauriston C. Durkee's estate filed the second account revealing an estimated value of at least 500000 with a remaining balance of 31362 after all claims are paid. The announcement comes from Greenfield on March 5.
