Question on treatment of accounts receivable payments in 1919 tax return
The taxpayer held $2000 in accounts receivable on 12 31 1917 included in the 1918 return. In 1918 $1000 was collected. For the 1919 return the question is whether to report both the $1000 collected in 1918 and the $1000 still on the books. The guidance is to include the amount actually received in 1918 as income for that year and to exclude it from the 1919 return. only the remaining $1000 should be reflected as an asset on the 1919 return.
