West Point Appointment Contenders Named by Congressman Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald selects Charles Doyle of 119 Tyler Street and John Adams of 111 East Utaw Street East Boston as finalists for the West Point vacancy. They depart for Newport for entrance examinations. Doyle led the competitive ranking and Adams is the alternate. Doyle, born 1875 in Lawrence, excels academically and athletically. Adams, born 1877 in East Boston, captained his high school military company and attends Harvard Medical School.

Seaside gambling raid defendants plead guilty in Plymouth

In Plymouth on March 2 a crowd gathered at the courthouse for the case against 37 men arrested Saturday night at Seaside for presence at a gambling scene. All defendants but Burke the proprietor pled guilty and were fined 10 dollars each. Burke and Green await further action on March 18.

Receivers Appointed for B and C Rail Road in Pennsy

Judge Butler in the United States Circuit Court named John K. Cowen and Oscar G. Murray ancillary receivers for the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road Company in the eastern district of Pennsylvania. Security set at 16000 dollars. The same pair were appointed in Baltimore on Saturday.

Spanish Troops Capture Rebel Camp in Matanzas

The report says Spanish troops under Major Cossio defeated 1500 rebels led by Amieva Betancourt and Cajizote on the Jesus Maria estate near Santa Ana Matanzas. Rebels lost eighteen killed and twenty wounded while the camp was taken and Major Cossio was wounded in the leg.
