Major Guthrie Endorses Canned Roast Beef as Wholesome

Washington March 1 The inquiry into General Miles's beef examined commissary and volunteers and heard a doctor’s report on beef tasting. Colonel Gallagher testified canned roast beef was replaced by bacon when complaints arose. he found little spoiled beef in Santiago and no evidence of chemical treatment in refrigerator meat. Major Guthrie recalled eating canned roast beef and found it wholesome though not as palatable. Armour & Co. described slaughtering packing processes and long-term supplying to U S posts and foreign governments with no complaints. Swift & Co. testimony mirrored the findings.

Professor Edouard Rod Arrives in New York for Lectures

Special course in French at Harvard University will present eight lectures on The History of French Dramatic Poetry under the Cercle Francaise de l Universite Harvard. Professor Rod, born in Lyon in 1857, began his literary work in 1879 with Apropos de L Avsommoir and later published novels including Les Allemands a Paris and La Course a la Mort.
