Rudyard Kipling remains seriously ill in New York as doctors report the crisis of double lobar pneumonia has passed but his condition is fragile. For nine days he has fought a severe infection with oxygen therapy and intensive care. today his breathing improved and he slept. Fever fell from 104 to about normal as he nears recovery.
David C. Sullivan testified as a government witness in the Milliken trial, implicating Oliver Downing and John Foye in bribery tied to the Scollans case. Police monitored Downing and Foye as the jury weighed charges amid calls to bring Scollans, Downing, and Foye to trial.

At Guadaloupe this morning the captured gunboat La Guna de Rey was used against insurgents. Fifty natives were killed as Lieutenant Scott's Sixth Artillery supported the bombardment. Rebels grow active at Caloocan and Malabon as they plan to mount a battery before Malabon church. Reports say Iloilo British consulate burned and Cebu natives retreated to hills to avoid American bombardment.

Two unknown men entered Gurney Bros. at Main and Sehoo streets in Brockton and escaped with a tray of diamonds valued at 1200. The tray contained twenty stones including a 160 diamond personal to Merton Gurney. Police searched the area but found no trace of the suspects.
Cablegram from Montreal reports the Labrador is a total loss with all passengers saved. Sixty four or fifty six aboard including F Agoncillo and MP L E Prowse. The Labrador, Dominion line commodore ship, last sailed from Liverpool to Halifax in seven days four hours.

No further news on the wrecked steamer Labrador at Lloyds by late hour. Believed all passengers are safe. The vessel went ashore at Skerryroe Rock off Tobermory in Argyle, Scotland, on the northeast of the Isle of Hull.
Schooner Annie E Rickerson sighted a distress signal from the Mary Freeland of Keyport New Jersey. Captain Wood reported leaving Elizabethport for Mobile with cement, gale off Hatteras caused heavy leaks and sinking, crew rescued by Rickerson and brought to port.
Philip Kee Kuen Coe faced a charge of $9 in an afternoon incident on Fourth Street. Kee was observed by Police Officer Doherty at the scene.
