Ro Roxbury Woman Fends Off Intruders In Home Defense

Mrs Annie Wills of 4412 Prentiss street Roxbury reports two men claiming to be police inspectors tried to search her house at 10 last night. She fired four shots from a revolver and used an axe to drive them off wounding one. She feared the other would escape as police issued a general alarm.

Child Heroism in Mashapaugh Pond Tragedy

Providence reports Elmer J Hawkins aged 4 years drowned after breaking thin ice at Mashapaugh Pond. His playmate Ernest Childs aged 6 years was pulled from the water just in time. Both boys were near the pond when the ice collapsed. Two rescuers saved Childs in a boat as Hawkins disappeared.

Harvard Student Escape From Hilton Dormitory Fire

James Barcley Henney a Harvard freshman with a crippled arm leaped from a fifth floor window into a canvas net aimed by hundreds of students as a blaze engulfed the Hilton dormitory on Massachusetts Avenue. Firemen arrived after eight minutes as the crowd improvised a救escape net and Henney was then carried to Cambridge Hospital where doctors said he would recover.
