The Cunard liner Ivernia with a record tourist passenger list yesterday narrowly escaped serious injury off Gallup's Island. She drifted several moments without steerage and was forced back from the Narrows to avoid colliding with a small coaster becalmed in her path.
The Cunarder left the dock at 5 30 yesterday afternoon with 176 first cabin 250 second and 650 steerage passengers. She backed water at full speed causing a white water spray while near Nix's Mate and Galloup's Island. Tug assistance followed as she cleared the Narrows and moved toward Boston Light.
In London on June 29 martial crowds watched as more than 100 women were arrested during a deputation to reach Prime Minister Asquith. The protesters, led by Mrs Pankhurst, gathered at Caxton Hall and planned a "Woman's Parliament" before the planned access to Parliament was denied. Police surrounded the area as crowds formed in Parliament Square.
