Senate Debates Bond Scheme for Eastern Railroad Sale

The Senate keens on a bill to issue second mortgage bonds for the Eastern Railroad to reduce debt, facing opposition over potential 30 to 50 percent premiums and alleged stock manipulation. Debates focus on creditors, trustees, and the 1876 law, with several senators pushing amendments or opposing the measure. The bill is defeated 16 to 13 after heated remarks about investors and state finances.
