S. S. Romanic sends a June 27 message from Halifax by marconigraph praising a smooth voyage. He reports the sea as a lake and all companions well, sends regards to Boston, and says he will arrive tomorrow. The note closes with thanks and a signed O Connell.
A race riot in Springfield involving Turks and Syrians resulted in one man killed, another fatally injured, and several seriously wounded. The violence followed the elopement of a 15 year old Syrian girl with a 17 year old Turkish youth, with a Turkish gathering Saturday night escalating the clash. Further details continued on page 2.
Six thousand children formed the line and about twenty thousand spectators attended the common exercises. Thirteen of the original Father Mathew abstainers from sixty years ago rode in carriages as the parade was reviewed on the Charles street mall by Mayor Hibbard and Catholic men noted.

Mrs. Margaret Leslie of Quincy died during a swimming test at Lake Archer when she and three others entered a canoe and she sank after minimal strokes. Fire department and rescuers responded as authorities investigate the incident.
Frank K. Foster a noted labor champion and city public figure died unexpectedly at 8 30 p m in McLean Hospital Waverley where he had been a patient since February 1 1908. He suffered from paresis and a later shock accelerated his decline with heat taking a toll before physicians called his family to the bedside.
The weather bureau predicts a return to torrid conditions after yesterday’s relief. Expected high temperatures will push into the upper range, renewing the intense heat that dominated the past week.

Four firefighters were overcome, trolley service halted for hours, and total losses run about 20000 with Seiberlich s property at 7000 and ex Senator Seiberlich totaling 9000. The three connected three story frame buildings sit on Hyde Park Avenue.
The fishing schooner Fred Leland brought Bernard J. Dobbins of East Boston Mass to Rockland Me after eight days afloat on the ocean. He had only a half pint of fresh water a small amount of raw fish kelp to sustain him when picked up last Friday near starvation.
June 15 the Boston fishing schooner Alice Dobbins left for trawling off Clark's Banks. A thick fog separated crewman Dobbins from the vessel. Captain Edward Russell searched 24 hours, and after eight grueling days Dobbins was found by the Fred Leland and carried aboard exhausted.
Swampscott on June 27. Oscear D. Upton saved his wife and 10 month old Marion G. by lowering them from a second floor window using a rope of bed clothing. The dog alerted them as flames and smoke filled the room and the escape via the stairs was blocked.
