Five residents clashed opposite the Hanover Street Police Station in a heated dispute. A bystander, new to the country, feared gunfire and pulled a fire alarm box, summoning district apparatus. The alarm reached box 1221 and brought units, but the argument ended before any fire crews arrived.

Samuel Rufstein of Roxbury died at Cambridge City hospital from burns suffered in the East Cambridge moonshine plant explosion that last week killed seven. His brother Alexander of Dorchester died Sunday night, while Cadish Copleman of Chelsea remained in serious condition on the hospital danger list.

Secretary Mellon asked Attorney General Daugherty for a ruling on the legality of selling liquor on Shipping Board vessels beyond the three mile limit. Treasury counsel say current regulations do not ban such sales, but a formal ruling will settle the question.
