Captain Loss Off Dredge in Calais St. Croix Collision

The steamer Grand Manan carrying about 600 excursionists struck a dredge in the St. Croix river at Calais Maine. The dredge sank and its captain died. the Grand Manan wedged atop the sunken dredge and was not floated. Passengers were taken off in small boats while hull damage was assessed.

Identity of Woman Found in Blackstone River

Boston and Lowell detectives struggle to identify a woman whose headless body was found in the Blackstone River opposite Dame Farm Grove on Tuesday. Detective Sergeant John T Suttor warns that without locating the head the case may remain one of the region s most mysterious murders in years.

Mystery deepens in river search for missing head

After a long river bottom search police failed to locate the missing head. The river was dragged two miles each side of the site where the body was found.
