The Louisville Southern Railroad Company announces a mortgage of 2,500,000 to Louisville Safety Vault and Trust Company. The lien covers all routes charters and property to back the issue used to finish building the line.
New York on June 26 Commissioner of Immigration Stephenson detained twenty-five French immigrants who arrived aboard the La Sane. They, silk weavers and manufacturers, allegedly signed labor contracts in Lyons with a New Jersey manufacturer's agent under the imported labor contract law.

London June 26 The Genesta continues to lead the jubilee race after passing Ventnor at 10 am while the Seline and Gwendoline reached Lisard Point at 7 30 am If head winds hold Genesta is expected to arrive about forty hours before the remaining competitors, shaping the outcome of the event.
London reports Lady Meux traveled from Paris with a man to London. They stayed at First Avenue Hotel and then Midland Hotel where the man rented a separate room and disappeared with jewels valued at £6500. No trace found. In Belgium King Leopold visited East London Children's Hospital and People's Palace, praising public amenities and laying a cornerstone for a library. New London June 26 Yale and Pennsylvania freshmen rowed a two mile race with Yale taking a clear lead from the start. Yale finished in 9 minutes 55 seconds, five boat lengths ahead of Pennsylvania whose effort faded in the last half mile. Water was calm and wind light as Yale set the pace at 36 strokes a minute.
In Washington on June 26 the Northern Pacific Railroad filed its answer to the Interior Secretary’s demand to show cause why withdrawal orders from settlement of indemnity lands should not be revoked. The company argues that the indemnity lands extend 10 miles on each side of the granted section along the entire line, making losses and lands common to the whole road regardless of state.
Concorp New Hampshire reports a rumored plan if legislation fails for the Boston and Maine to lease NH roads. The line would run eighteen miles from Alton Bay along Lake Winnepesaukee to Lake Village, tapping the Boston Concord Montreal network. The Lake Shore charter, granted in 1881, expires next year unless extended. This would divert summer travel to the B and M.

Witton Del June 26. The Dover Sentinel publishes letters and estimates from forty eight peach growers noting a sharply reduced crop. Reports indicate 8,000,000 baskets expected, now reduced to about 1,500,000 and possibly larger later. The crop is gone with unclear causes.
