Joy Steamship enters busy New York Providence route

The Joy Steamship Company debuts a New York to Providence service to challenge the Metropolitan line. The Allan Joy, 240 feet, eight months old, with 1600 hp, 15 knots, and a steel hull, docked at Union wharf amid speed tests against H. M. Whitney. The ship sails weekly, expanding to two trips when demand grows, while other vessels and notable passengers pass through Boston harbor, Gloucester, and Charlestown links remain active through the season.
