Yale’s rowing eight surged from a mile mark deficit to finish a half length ahead in the four mile race. Neal R. O’Hara reports from New London on June 24, noting the outfit had been mocked but proved strong in the final stretch.
A bootlegger paid a $2 bill raised to $10 to settle a fine in United States District Court Providence. The fake payment was detected during the weekly bank deposit. Judge Arthur L. Brown is seeking the offender's identity.
Alphonso A. Godin 29 and Mrs. Ralph Ratcliffe 30 of 32 Pratt Ave North Weymouth arrested as Weymouth police solve a year long burglary spree. Ratcliffe reportedly rode in a flashy car while Godin lived a luxurious life at the “House of Mystery.” Also tied to the case is George C. Farrell 28 of East Braintree captured with Colonel Henry L. Kincaide in Quincy after a morning arrest.
James Dempse y reports Joe Cannon and Joe Walsh, famed Washington figures, arrived at New Bedford to escape heat and relax at Buzzards Bay. The pair seek rest and cool air away from tariff bills, appropriations, and disarmament talk.

Edwin H. Elliott, former Bradley Fertilizer Company employee, pleaded guilty to forgery and larceny involving $35,332.26 stolen from Peter B. Bradley. Placed on probation by Judge Brown in Suffolk Superior Court after restoring full restitution. crimes dated from October 1915 to May 21, last year, including a $22,823.65 forged check.
The Plymouth excursion steamer South Shore ran out of control last night while docking at Rowe's Wharf and struck the end of the pier, endangering hundreds of passengers and causing substantial damage.
The big steamer protruded onto Atlantic avenue after breaking through the landing stage of the Boston Yacht Club and nearly struck the rear of the restaurant at 324 Atlantic avenue run by R. A. Trenholme. Passengers watched in alarm as the vessel pushed past the restaurant end, narrowly avoiding collision.
The forecast calls for cooler temperatures and generally fair conditions through the day before showers may arrive in the late afternoon or evening. Stronger chances exist late at night in parts of the region.
