President Edward DeValera arrived in New York and appeared publicly for the Irish Republic amid a cheering crowd. An Irishwoman hugged and blessed him as police struggled to clear traffic to the Waldorf Astoria where supporters crowded the corridors and applauded his motorcade.
Squadron commander maneuvers to calm a frightened crowd at the field but cannot stop the accident. A boy and a girl are confirmed victims, another girl is seriously injured as officials investigate the incident.
A De Haviland bomber named Black Jack crash landed at Franklin Field during a landing attempt after a Dallas to Boston flight. The impact killed two children and seriously injured a third as hundreds of schoolchildren watched in panic. Captain William Chandler became trapped, while Pilot Lieutenant Colonel H B Claggett escaped unharmed and aided the victims.
At the Atlantic City convention the American Federation of Labor pledged a general 44 hour week for workers in all crafts and for government employees to reduce unemployment. The pledge followed a broad demand supported by union leaders and was announced during the closing sessions.
Lieutenant William L. Drohan, formerly of the 101st Regiment 26th Division AEF, died yesterday afternoon at 5 at his home 39 Harvest Street South Boston from a complication of diseases. He was stricken while decorating graves at Calvary Cemetery on Memorial Day and cared for by Col. Edward L. Logan and Col. Thomas F. Sullivan. His condition worsened into coma by Sunday.
Rear Admiral Herbert W. Dunn commander of the First Naval District was secretly married to Mrs. Fileanor Cameron Palmer of Baltimore at New London Connecticut on a Sunday afternoon. News reached Boston yesterday as the ceremony was conducted quietly at the Charlestown navy yard and his associates were surprised by the disclosure. Dunn planned a few days rest at his summer home near Watch Hill, Connecticut after the wedding.
Washington June 23 The judiciary committee struck out the provision of the prohibition enforcement bill allowing search of private homes for contraband liquor with warrants sworn by two credible persons. The espionage act search system was substituted.
Funeral arrangements are made today with a likely funeral Thursday and expected full military honors for a highly popular member of the famed New England regiment. Continued on Page 2 Fifth Column.
In Lawrence New Jersey on June 23 1919 the prosecution rested its case after Mrs Bessie Mae Skeels Lundgren broke down in court. A sugar of lead package was found in Albert Wilkins Bayonne home linked to his murder by lead administration.
Paris June 2 The budget committee of the Chamber of Deputies plans to send a delegation to Clemenceau to ask if the government can immediately explain the sinking of the German fleet and what steps will be taken to offset France losses from the destruction of its entitled fleet.
In a campaign urging the Legislature to delay ratification, the Women’s Anti Suffrage Association of Massachusetts asks voters to let constituents be heard. The notice presses lawmakers to consider six months of public input before voting on the Federal Suffrage Amendment.
President W D Mahon announces union and company executives met after a four hour session with Guy W Currier on the Bay State system now Eastern Massachusetts Railway Company. Company insists no arbitration until grievances are resolved and workers must decide by tomorrow morning.
Major-General Leonard Wood arrived in Boston at 10 o clock tonight with one aide. He registered at the Hotel Essex and retired almost immediately, denying himself any visitors.
Springfield reports Fiber Lord Corporation with 1200 workers implements a 48 hour workweek replacing 55 hours without any pay reduction. Company states schedule improves efficiency while maintaining earnings.
The deceased include Joseph L. Benaglia, 12, of 60 Canterbury Street. Details indicate a fatal incident with the boy named among the dead in a local tragedy.
