Connie Mack Sees Boxmen Fail In Crucial Exhibition

The anecdote recalls Connie Mack assessing a struggling pitching staff as three boxmen failed to perform. Collins, Moseley, and Foster all faltered with wildness or avoidance of damage. The planned pennant game turned discouraging as Stahl’s hitters held their own until late. Brown’s wild first inning spurred Mack to shift Houck in, and despite Red Sox late rallies Speaker and Hall left the field as a belated pinch hitter.
