Nantasket garage fire threatens Paragon Park area

A nocturnal blaze swept through the Nantasket garage endangering Paragon Park and nearby wooden dwellings including the Seaside Inn. Firemen in their auto apparatus rapidly contained the fire, preventing wider damage.

Fire at Hull beach garage sparks mass evacuation

Ten thousand crowd the beach as a blaze breaks out in a Hull garage filled with automobiles. Fire crews led by Chief John L. Mitchell and police offcials rush to control the flames within minutes. Despite a near spread to Seaside Inn and adjacent houses, all cars are saved and authorities praise rapid response and the extra auto steamer arriving in time.

Two Drownings at Wrights Pond Medford

Two Armenian youths from Charlestown aged 26 and 17 drowned yesterday afternoon at Wrights Pond Medford when water wings failed. A nearby canoe with a nurse and a patient from the New England Sanatorium failed to aid as the victims clung to each other and sank. Bystanders, including divers, misread the scene as sport and continued diving until the tragedy was realized.

Natick Officer Killed By Car Headlight Glare

John J. Manuel assistant superintendent of Natick Water Works was killed at 9 25 p m when a Boston Worcester trolley struck him at Willow Bridge after the glare of an automobile headlight dazzled pedestrians. He was 48 a native of Scotland and resided at 21 Pearl street Natick surviving him is a brother James Manuel of Hopedale.

KILLED IN A STOLEN AUTO IN Wollaston tragedy

As a joy ride in a stolen car ends in death. Alton Tripp aged 21 of 267 Safford street Wollaston is dead. Daniel Dowling, 22 of 5 Old Colony avenue Wollaston is in critical danger with a fractured skull after a rope breaks and a craft hurled into the rapids. The two boys clutch hands before falling to the deadly whirlpool.

Desperate Rescue Efforts As Two Boys Die At Niagara Falls

At Niagara Falls New York on June 22 Donald Roscoe aged 10 and Hubert Moore aged 9 both residents of Niagara Falls were killed in the whirl pool rapids after a rope broke in a flat bottom scow they rode near the Hydraulic Power Company station Elliott Thompson 12 also from the neighborhood was aboard but leaped overboard to reach shore after realizing swimming would fail authorities halted rescue attempts as hundreds of onlookers watched the tragedy from the shore continuing on page T-2d column

Stolen Car Crash After Nantasket Fire Turned Tragic

Two cars were stolen from a Nantasket garage during a last night fire. One car owner was William Pettis of North Abington. Conductor John Burke spotted an overturned vehicle on Power Hill in Braintree and alerted Officer John Shay. Tripp was crushed beneath the wreck, Dowling was found semi conscious with a fractured skull and multiple injuries. The pair had been offered a ride by a stranger at the Cleveland House Nantasket and may have been driven at high speed down Power Hill before the crash. Police warn the suspected driver is at large as searches begin.

Seven Injured as Car Plunges Through Fence onto Rail Line

Policeman Shot by Fiancee in Worcester

Worcester June 23 Police officer Albert R. Murphy of the Worcester department was fatally wounded by his longtime fiancée Rose Mcuurl after a midnight walk. She returned with a concealed .32 caliber revolver and fired a single shot into his abdomen. He remains on the dangerous list at Worcester Hospital.

Woman shoots man then aims at herself but discards gun

Miss McGurl and Mur phy stood on her steps before a shooting. The revolver fired at Murphy, missing its mark as McGurl hurled the weapon away. Murphy, wounded, urged officers not to arrest her until tomorrow. McGurl, jailed for assault with intent to kill, claimed a motive in her refusal to discuss her reasons.
