Northampton Man Held on Larceny Charge in Mineral Co Papers

William F. Collins 31 of 2 Pleasant Street Northampton was arrested by Inspectors Gaddis and Patterson on larceny charges involving Boston Mineral Reduction Company papers valued at 520 dollars. The alleged theft, said to have occurred May 31, involved Collins entering the Tremont building office of Charles R. Silas while he was away and taking stock papers. Collins, a mining engineer with a waste reduction patent, is held as the investigation continues.

Police Seek 78-Year-Old Joseph Treat Missing at Sea

Police pursue Joseph Treat of New York missing since June 12 after leaving on the Tremont steamer Joy Line. Relatives report he came for recreation with no visitors and promised to write. fear foul play. Treat is 5 feet 8, bald, gray side whiskers, wearing a black cutaway suit and gaiters.

Naval task force arrives in port for coronades

A squadron in Newfoundland waters led by Commodore Te Ferrand arrived this morning to take part in the coronades. Also in port are the British Lanboat Thistle and the special service steamer Columbine. The cruiser Charybdis is already here with D'Estrees and the sloop Alert expected tomorrow.

Raids Nabs Sixteen Chinamen Over Gambling Implements

Police from Station 4 raided two Oxford Street houses. 16 Chinese men were arrested after gambling devices were found at 9 Oxford Place and two more were taken from 10 Oxford Place. All suspects were booked at Station 4.

Jane Toppan Declared Insane After Poisoning Mrs Gibbs

Barnstable June 23 Jane Toppan committed for life to Taunton Insane Hospital after a jury found her insane and not responsible for murder. The trial revealed her confession to poisoning Mrs Gibbs though she faced three indictments and was suspected in several other deaths.
