Five Roxbury children found starving in derelict tenement
Officers from Station 9 and the children's society found Russell Stockman 14, Louis 8, Stockman 12, Grace 9, Ernest 6, and Edith 3 malnourished in two rooms at 115 Howard Avenue Roxbury. The mother, recently jailed for shoplifting, has left the family with no food or shoes. The youngsters were clothed and fed, then taken to Roxbury District Court where Judge Bolster committed them to the State Board of Charities until the case next proceeds. The father is sought. authorities note the family’s poverty and possible need to steal to survive.

Rose and Strawberry Exhibit Opens at Horticultural Hall
The annual rose and strawberry exhibition opened in Horticultural Hall yesterday and runs until 5 p m today. Joseph H Woodford, chairman of the arrangements, said the display of roses was outstanding for Massachusetts Horticultural Society. Orchids were shown under Wi Mam Thatcher, head gardener for Mrs Jack Gardner, with about 800 roses across 150 varieties and a Sweet William collection on view.

Fire Hits AP Office Awnings Injuring Two In Boston
About 10 30 Friday morning a cigar stub thrown from an upper story lit the awning beneath the Associated Press offices on School street and damaged sashes costing 50 dollars. The fire was minor but crowds gathered and two people were hurt Isaac Hart 44 Fourth Street South Boston was knocked nearly senseless by a falling lamp pole after the box 41 ladder entangled it. Harry Smithton 10 Parkman street sustained a cut to his left hand from flying glass.

Organized Cambridge Burglars Rob Multiple Areas
An organized gang is suspected after several Cambridge burglaries this week. The Mason residence at 1696 Massachusetts Avenue lost $50 in silverware and jewelry, and A. B. Willis's store at 677 Main Street was robbed of till cash. The suspects, aged 28 and 40, wore dark clothing and the police report heightened vigilance citywide.

Catholic churches across the city observed the Feast of the Sacred Heart yesterday morning. Special sacred heart devotions ordered by the Pope heightened the solemnity as part of the holy year. Altars and sanctuaries were bright, music programs were performed by choirs, and attendance was large.
