Senate Tariff Clash Over Sugar Duties Forecast

Washington June 22 The Senate finance committee signals passage of a tariff bill this session with non radical reductions and a patchwork likely sent to the White House by August or September. A heated fight centers on the sugar schedule and refiners profits, while lumber and mica duties loom and revenues hinge on shifts to the free list. The committee cites 300 changes from the House bill and provides revenue tables by Swans and Durfee, noting estimates depend on import volumes.
