Judge George W McCrary Dies in Missouri
The Hon. George W. McCrary of Kansas City died in St. Joseph, Missouri, aged fifty five. Born August 29, 1835 in Evansville Indiana, he began law practice in Keokuk, Iowa in 1855 and served in Congress from 1868 to 1877. He helped pass the Electoral Commission bill, joined Hayes cabinet as War Secretary, then was appointed U.S. judge in 1879 and later became consulting attorney for the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Company in Kansas City. Also noted: Judge James Lawrenson, 87, longtime U.S. postal service official, died in Baltimore after 71 years in service.
