The 1st Maine Regiment Heavy Artillery left for the front five weeks ago with 1800 men and reported 450 killed or wounded in Saturday’s fight. Killed were Captain Howes and Lieutenant Ruggles. Wounded include Major Sabine Major Crossman Adjutant Clark Captain Bute Captain Clark Captain Jagnette Captain Daggett Lieutenants Hilton Foster Fernald Newenhan Yancy Porter Oster. On the 8th inst a Matta boat crew destroyed a distillery on a creek near Edenton North Carolina, a resort for guerrillas.

In Conn steam flour mill of W B Willard burned tonight destroying fifteen thousand bushels of grain and other property with losses over fifty thousand dollars and insured for more than twenty thousand.
