Atusett Dam Holds But There Is Danger
Clinton June 21 The Wachusett reservoir has reached an unprecedented height after heavy rainfall totaling 13 inches in 24 days. The Water Board mobilized crews to relieve pressure by removing loose stones from the temporary dam and using four large pipes to drain water. All nearby reservoirs are at capacity complicating flood control. The flooded Massachusetts Central railroad location risks train operation if needed. The temporary dam sits under ten feet of water with gatehouse and flume nearly submerged, yet precautions protect most property and equipment.
