Lowell Returns Home From London Arrival in Boston

James Russell Lowell, former U S minister to the court of St James, arrived in Boston by the Scythia last Saturday. The steamer reached the Boston light at midnight and anchored until morning, docking at 7 A.M. Mrs Burnett and her husband were at the wharf to greet him. He then left for E Burnett of Southboro to attend Harvard commencement exercises Wednesday.

Worst Hurricane Since 1846 Hits Newfoundland Coasts

Newfoundland papers report the recent hurricane as the worst on the coast since 1846 with massive losses of fishing gear and vessels. Forty crafts destroyed at Old Pelican, six vessels wrecked near Holyrood, five schooners lost at Brigus, Notre Dame Bay shores swept clean, Bona Vista ports see 75 crafts destroyed, many lives lost, damages near 250000 dollars. Toronto Ont June 21 600 builders laborers walked out yesterday following a union vote. The pick and shovel men joined the strike while stonemasons and brick layers refused to work with non union laborers supplied by the masons. The Salvation Army mayor offered 200 laborers provoking indignation.

Vereks NH June 21 report of a man named Storrs arrest in Laconia after an alleged murder attempt on his wife. He was jailed awaiting the next term of the supreme court. Earlier two weeks prior he tried to commit suicide after his wife said she did not love him.

Disastrous Newport Fire Destroys Court House and Town Offices
