Two Quarrymen Bound. Four Discharged in Rockport Case

In Gloucester on June 20 the Rockport Granite Company strike case against six quarrymen for an alleged attempt to blow up John Carlson’s Rockport boarding house was heard. John Ericson and Matti Sorell were bound over to the grand jury in 2000 bonds each, while four others were discharged. State Officer Neal testified and warrants for additional arrests were expected before the grand jury convenes.

Superior Court Sentences for B and E Crimes Galaxy

Daniel Harris and Henry Swan were found guilty of breaking and entering in Superior Criminal Court. Judge Dewey sentenced Harris to 20 months and Swan to 15 months at the House of Correction. Mulcahey Loses 340 In Boston Wharf Scam

Michael Mulcahey of Yarmouth Nova Scotia was robbed of 340 dollars at Lewis Wharf after a stranger talked him into handing over the money to a boat purser. Mulcahey, in Boston seeking work, bought cigars for the suspect and waited as the man in a white fedora vanished before the steamer sailed. A police report followed.

Everett council orders joint probe into police chief and department

At the Everett Common Council meeting tonight a unanimous vote approved a joint special committee to investigate Chief of Police Pendergast and the entire police department. A second order for an investigation of the department of public works by a council committee also passed unanimously, with Pendergast supporters confident the chief will be exonerated.

Somerville Cyclist Hurt After Drunken Wheelman Incident

A intoxicated man driving a worn-out buggy nearly killed James Phillips 27 of Union Square Somerville on the Mystic Valley Parkway West Medford Monday night. Phillips was struck in the chest by a shaft end, fell, struck his head and lay for 45 minutes before friends found him. He survived and was moved home. The inebriate had earlier knocked a fellow rider from his wheel.
