Lightning Fire Destroys Barn Then Kills Horse

A lightning strike caused a fire in a barn owned by John Bradley at 26 Shelton Street Ashment. Three alarms were rung with two later ones wasted on transfers. all 22 horses except one were saved. About twenty tons of hay burned. total loss around $1500, insured. A nearby old man was knocked off his feet, and a horse died in the blaze.

A brief severe thunderstorm hit Northfield this afternoon with hail. Lightning struck the flagpole on the north tower of the large Moody conference auditorium, shattering the pole and damaging the tower roof but causing no report of injuries.
