In the National League Brooklyn plays Boston while Washington meets New York and Baltimore visits Philadelphia. No New England League games are listed. Lowell travels to Lawrence in the New England Association.
Brooklyn and Boston fans witnessed a tense game where the trolley team finally connected and edged the home squad. Nash and Lowe starred with bat and glove as Griffin, Lucid, and Stivetts delivered crucial plays in a back and forth contest.
The New Yorks defeated Washington 16 to 6 as Clarke pitched well except for one inning. Glasscock booted three plays in the sixth allowing eight New York runs. Farrell drove in six with long hits while Stocksdale endured rough support. Attendance 3000. Boswell released by New Yorks.
In Baltimore, 16 to 4 over Philadelphia, the nine tied late before Brodie scored the winning run in the ninth. Thompson hit a homer as Baltimore overcame seven Philadelphia errors led by Sullivan and Reilly. Attendance 6,200. Batters Clarkson Clark Carsey Clements.
Pittsburg defeated Louisville with a 17 to 9 score as Gardner started for Pittsburg and Cun ningham struggled for Louisville. McDermott and Cunningham pitched poorly for both sides. Attendance was about 2,000. Pitt sg Gardner and Sugden. Louisville McDermott Cunningham Zahner.
In New England League action at Lewiston Budge’s wild pitching and Burke’s poor baserunning helped Pawtucket beat Lewiston 7 to 1. Pawtucket had 6 hits and 4 errors to Lewiston’s 12 hits and 3 errors.
Lowell hurled ten early runs over four innings to outpace Nashua 8 to 7. Nashua scored in scattered frames but Lowell kept pace with a sharp hitting attack while Parrott held the mound late. Final line shows Nashua 14 hits Lowell 16 with three Nashua and seven Lowell errors. Batteries Krumm Luchia Parrott Hoyt.
Wilkesbarre had a listless contest with Toronto as Campfield lasted one inning and was relieved after five runs. Gray pitched well for Wilkesbarre while Toronto hit 14 to 2. Errors favored Toronto with three by Wilkesbarre and attendance numbered at 800.
Two noted college players Sexton and Tenney, once stars for Brown University, now wear Boston uniforms and prepare to face Brooklyn.
