Crowley Case to Day in Superior Court on Manslaughter Charge

Richard Crowley stood trial in the Superior Criminal Court with Judge Sheldon presiding on an indictment charging him with manslaughter in the death of John Burns. The May 4 incident at Heath and Behton streets involved a knife and a confrontation in Jacobs liquor store. Witnesses described melee on the sidewalk, barroom altercations, and Crowley’s role in restraining his brother and Burns. The case adjourned to today for further proceedings.

North Atlantic Wrecking Co expands with Newport assets

The North Atlantic Wrecking Company of Boston, owned by Captains D. H. Smith and Alfred Sorensen, has expanded by purchasing the late ex Mayor Waters of Newport Rhode Island’s wrecking outfit. The new plant includes the schooner Young America, diving gear, heavy hawser, wrecking pumps, and equipment, making it a leading wrecking operation in New England.
