Lightning Strikes Mrs Frederick L Allen’s Boarding House

A lightning strike severely damages Mrs Frederick L Allen’s boarding house at New London near the Pequot house on Thursday. A patient named Taylor Adams escaped Middletown Insane asylum Tuesday and drowned in the river Wednesday as authorities pursued him. A Birmingham shoemaker, John O’Hara, found a seven shooter pistol chamber hidden in a pair of shoes he repaired. He dumped the explosive-filled chambers into the river and reported the customer. Police Chief Martin is seeking the unidentified customer who purchased the pistol.

A Sonora Shooting Escalates Into Tragedy

Despatch from Sonora California details a deadly dispute over water crossing on a mining claim. Edmund Gallagher 22 shot Mrs Otis Greenwood, her son Otis fired at Gallagher. Watson pursued Otis Greenwood who then shot Watson. Mrs Greenwood and Robert Watson died. Both Gallagher and Greenwood jailed.

Lynn Yacht Club Regatta Opens July Fourth

A grand regatta open to all yachts will be held off the Lynn yacht club house on Friday July 4 starting at 8 A M under the Lynn and West Lynn yacht clubs. Yachts are divided into four classes with courses ranging five miles and three miles and a return route via judges boat and flag boat.

Regimental Monuments to Be Dedi cated at Gettysburg

Five regimental monuments are set for dedication on the Gettysburg anniversary. The seventeenth Connecticut, twenty-seventh Pennsylvania, one hundred fifty third Pennsylvania, one hundred twenty fourth New York, and fourteenth Connecticut will be unveiled July 1 to July 3. Col Batchelder, tablets chief, will depart Boston Sunday June 29 with a party heading to meet the Connecticut excursion leaving Jersey City Monday June 30.

National Catholic union adopts report on Rome property seizure

The National Catholic union approved the committee’s report protesting the confiscation of propaganda property in Rome used by the American college. Officers elected include Rev. J. H. Mitchell as president and Rev. James K. Cleary and W. P. F. Whall as vice presidents. Newark, New Jersey, chosen as next annual meeting site. Adjourned sine die.

Funeral set for Bishop Simpson in Philadelphia

Methodist Episcopal ministers gathered at Wesley hall to plan the funeral for Bishop Simpson. The service will be at Arch Street Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia on Tuesday June 24 at 3 PM with all Methodist ministers invited. Interment will be Wednesday at South Laurel Hill Cemetery with family and preachers present.

Boiler Explodes at S Pennock Shops Hurting Four

A 20-horsepower boiler exploded at the road machine shops of S Pennock & Sones in Kennett Square this morning. Four men were seriously hurt including B. P. Kirk treasurer of Pennock Manufacturing. The shops were damaged and fire was quickly controlled. Cause of the explosion is unknown.

Boston College to hold week of commencement events

Commencement exercises are scheduled for the coming week at Boston College. Tuesday evening features the annual prize drill, Wednesday evening presents the comedy A New Way to Pay Old Debts, and Thursday evening will host the regular graduating exercises along with prize awards.

Tragedy at Dayton’s Blatt as two women die

In Dayton, Minnesota, June 1, J. Ceehura stabbed Katharine Messerschmidt aged 76 and her daughter Margaret, both of Six, Minn. They died soon after. He then took his own life. The motive cited was a dispute over house rent.
