On Bunker Hill Yesterdays parade saw the Union Jack carried to the hill summit by a 236th Canadian Overseas Battalion Kiltie. The event marked 142 years since British forces fought up the hill. A British colonel and a U S captain joined hands to urge enlistment for war amid the crowd.

Sidney Wilmot Winslow, born on Cape Cod and a Pilgrim stock member, rose from a 14 year shoe trade in his father's shop to become president of the United Shoe Machinery Company. He died at his Beverly home, 545 Cabot street, North Beverly, at 10:30 p.m. He was 62 years old and regarded as the most powerful figure in the world’s shoe machinery industry.
Mr. Winslow died of heart disease in Beverly after a severe attack at the Hotel Touraine. Survived by four children Sidney W. Winslow Jr Edward H. Winslow Mrs. George J. Hill and Mrs. Frederick Foster all of Beverly. Funeral Thursday at 2 30 p m at the home of Sidney W. Winslow Jr Hale Street Cemetery North Beverly. Born Brewster Cape Cod Sept 20 1864 son of Freeman and Lucy H Rogers Winslow. Descended from Pilgrim ancestors on both sides.
German submarine losses against British merchant shipping totaled 322 vessels over 1600 tons and 78 under 1600 tons since February 17. Attacks failed on 299 ships, with weekly unsuccessful rates from 51 to 75 percent.

In London, Chancellor Bonar Law said prisoners were freed unconditionally and Sinn Fein had no single spokespeople. Dublin reports confirm Plunkett and other Sinn Fein members arrested June 9 were released today.

The State Department cabled the Italian government seeking Cocchi’s extradition from Italy as part of a broader inquiry into the case.

In the House passage is expected late this week unless extraordinary measures are used.
An informal conference is planned tomorrow between Senators and Herbert C. Hoover, the President's nominee to be food administrator with immediate authority. At Senator Ransdell's suggestion Hoover was invited to speak at a public meeting of the agriculture committee.
A State Supreme Court jury in Long Island City awarded Miss Honora May O'Brien 225000 in her breach of promise suit against retired banker John B. Manning. O'Brien, 28, secretary to a New York newspaper man, charged Manning broke his promise to marry.
London reports May casualty lists from Germany show 22 000 killed or died of wounds or sickness 26 562 prisoners and missing 62 394 wounded totaling 110 956 for May. Combined with prior totals sickness 1 068 127 prisoners missing 557 410 wounded 2 731 223 and overall total 4 356 760 since the war began.
Patrolman Michael Noonan was badly injured when about a hundred locals attacked him after arresting sailor Harold Percy at Whitney Street and St Alphonsus Avenue Roxbury. Percy, in a sailor uniform, is charged with assaulting an officer after defying the officer's order.
James S. Thompson a 14 year old of Roslin Dale was arrested at the Washington Street playgrounds by Officer William J. Noonan. A .32 revolver with four cartridges was found on him. He admitted robbing several children at gunpoint, with one victim, Mrs. Katherine Vincent, escaping after screams. Thompson was recognized by three young victims.
