Alfred Gleason a 16 year old Malden resident and Joseph Wilson a 14 year old Lynn youth clung to the keel of an overturned sailing dory for nearly two hours in Lynn Harbor. Rescuers from the Volunteer Yacht Club located them at about 4 PM and they were treated for exposure before being sent home.
Edward Kane aged 18 was arrested on a burglary charge after a chase through the South End. Two officers fired three shots as the pair fled from Levy's department store on Washington street around 4 am. Kane was caught near Harrison avenue. one accomplice escaped. Property in the suitcases valued about 200 dollars.
London report details last night’s raid by two enemy airships. One crossed the Kentish coast at 2 am dropping bombs. two killed, 16 injured, many homes damaged. The second raider attacked West Anglia, was brought down by Royal Flying Corps after gunfire, destroying the airship with all crew reported dead.
President Wilson directed Herbert Hoover to organize the food administration and enlist housewives as members. Registration for women runs July 1 to July 15 through the Council of National Defence and state defence councils as part of conservation and waste elimination efforts.
Washington June 17 The War Department approves the air supremacy programme of the Defence Council's Aircraft Board. President Wilson is urged to support a $600 million plan to train aviators and produce aircraft. Baker says the plan can train thousands and supply allies without hindering army buildup.
