Olympia Fishing Schooner Struck by Sagamore. Six Perish

The Gloucester built Olympia a two masted schooner is cut in two by the steamer Sagamore in fog off Sable Island. Eight survivors including John A. Young and Frank Costa reach the Sagamore. Captain Doggett and six others drown. The Sagamore tows to Charlestown for port inspections.

Feared Bunker Hill Fire Off Castle Island Alarmed City

The Bunker Hill with 300 passengers bound for New York put back toward Boston amid dense black smoke off Castle Island. Fireboat 44 and auxiliary craft reached the scene, but company officials said no fire aboard and only boiler smoke from oil burners, with no damage reported.

Seventeen ships docked at T wharf with heavy demand and firm prices for haddock cod hake and pollock. Senate mine strike probe ends Charleston session shifts to Washington

More Nurses for Infants Proposed by City Officials

Mayor Fitzgerald told the Milk and Baby Hygiene Association committee he will seek City Council funds for at least eight more nurses under Dr. William J. Gallivan to reduce infant deaths. George R. Bedinger said the plan avoids duplication with the Board of Health, and two new nurses will be placed at the Elizabeth Peabod House and in East Boston from summer funds.
